I was feeling pretty good after my run yesterday morning. My IT band was a little sore, but I stretched it out, put some ice on it, and continued my day. For lunch, we went down to the in-laws. It's about a 30-minute drive and, when I got out of the car, the outside part of my left foot hurt like a mother. I could barely put any weight on it. I put my foot up and there was no pain whatsoever. I put weight on it again, more pain. No pain on my arches, just on the side of my foot. This morning, it's a little better, but not by much. There's no swelling and it doesn't hurt when I touch it.
I'm praying that this isn't PF and I'm praying that I'm not sidelined for too long. Of course, I mailed in my registration for the marathon on Saturday.
With me deciding to be lazy the past few weekends and this mysterious injury, I'm very concerned that this messes up my training in a big way.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
**UPDATE** - After rest and some ibuprofen this morning, my foot is feeling a little better. I'm going to the tennis coach and steal a tennis ball, even if it isn't PF. I'm wondering if my IT band issue, which is also on my left leg, has something to do with it.

I confess that I've been one of your blog lurkers for quite a while now, but your current problem finally gave me the motivation to leave a comment. I did a marathon in June and during training had a bad bout with my ITB. The running specialty store I go to set me up with a foam roller and it made a world of difference! Actually using the roller is pretty painful, but it really loosens up the ITB. After just using it a couple of times I could feel a big difference. Here's a link you can check out to see what kinds of exercises to try. http://foam-roller.com/media/Document_8.pdf I hope this helps!
Melissa-thanks for the advice. I've used a roller here at school and it hurts like a mother. Works great, though. I should just break down and buy one for home.
I haven't dealt with foot pain yet - just leg pain - but what about that old roll a tennis ball around with your foot thing, to get it loosened up? Unless you think it's some kind of bone injury...
Razz - I think I've had a similar foot problem in the past, while training for a half marathon. The only things that prevented it for me were to cut an additional groove in the soles of my shoes (for more flexibility where the pain is occuring) and to pay close attention to my running form, especially in those last miles when I'm tired (I tend to get sloppy and land differently on my feet, causing stress in weird places). Hope that helps! Keep up with the icing in the meantime!
That sucks. Hope it goes away soon.
Dude, the outside of the ankle pain when NOT rolling over on it scares the crap out of me. That is what sidelined me to 2 YEARS - started innocently enough, but kept getting worse, then the MRI showed I had completely torn my ATFL, and a bunch of other crap was wrong too! If you start feeling it in the achilles or up the side of the leg, get someone to look at it. I truly hope you are ok.
I'm going to start like a groupie for this store, but along with blue jelly bellys, I also got my Foam Roller at the store with the bull's eye for a logo. Good luck!
Yep, what everyone else says. I usually wait a few days and try a few easy runs to see how it responds to R.I.C.E. and go from there. So far, everything has gotten better so no doctors have ever needed to get involved. Good luck. Keep stretching and ease into your long runs.
BTw, nice 15 miler. Just get yourself trained to 20. Believe me, on the big day, you'll find a way to get the last 6 done.
Hey Raz
I work for a PT clinic gave them a quick run down of your post and an arch issue was thrown out as a possibility.
Are these the new shoes? Do they show any special wear on the outside?
Sorry bub. I think it's PF, which I currently have.
Marathon Me gave me thesock.com and it's winging it's way to me now.
That sucks dude! Hope a little RICE helps cure things up.
Fingers crossed your foot gets better soon. Hopefully what I sent you in the mail will help boost your morale too. :)
That's the way it works, RazZ. As soon as you sign up, something goes wrong. Hope you get to feelin better...
